ABOUT
Thornley House is situated one mile from Allendale village and nine miles south of the historic market town of Hexham in Northumberland. It is in the North Pennines, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
The house is surrounded by a large garden and woodland, which opens for the Red Cross every year. There is free private parking.
Here you will meet resident Maine Coons cats (the largest you can have legally in Britain). Dogs are welcome on a lead in the house and grounds. Other animals are also welcome on request (regular visitors include birds of prey and guinea pigs). There is no extra charge for pets.

OUR ROOMS
We have two rooms available for guests. Each of these rooms, overlooking the field and garden, can be configured either as a large double or with two single beds.
Complete with tea and coffee making facilities and television.
One room is en-suite with shower and toilet, while the other has its own immediately adjacent bathroom.
Breakfast
A full-cooked breakfast - highly praised by guests - is offered.
Special diets are catered for.
Garden
A large, beautifully maintained garden with plenty of seating for admiring
the views.
Free Wifi
Super-fast WiFi is available throughout the house.
Guests are welcome to relax in the two lounges, one of which has a Steinway Grand Piano. There is a self-guided "Safari" tour which introduces you to the riches of the extensive gardens, including many sculptures from around the world and the woodland pet cemetery.

THINGS TO SEE AND DO
Countryside
Unspoilt pastoral farmland, many wildflower-rich hay meadows, spectacular moors and the beautiful River Allen are excellent for walking and birdwatching. Local maps are provided at Thornley House and guided walks are sometimes available.
Food and Drink
Allendale village, a mile away, has pubs and tea rooms. There is also an independent Co-operative grocer and general store (founded in 1874). Hexham, 9 miles away, has a wide choice of restaurants. There are several rural gastro-pubs locally too.
Hexham
Named as England's favourite market town by "Country Life" magazine, Hexham has a fascinating Abbey, medieval Moot Hall and Old Gaol, all open to visitors. There is a wide range of independent shops.
Golf
The village of Allendale has a golf club which welcomes visitors. There are also gold courses at Hexham and near Alston (the highest town in England).
Romans
Hadrian's Wall (a World Heritage site), the famous Vindolanda Fort excavations (and Roman Army Museum), and Epiacum Roman Fort (near Alston) are all about 30 minutes drive away.
Visitor Attractions
Beamish Museum, Kielder Water, Kielder "Dark Skies" Observatory and the stately homes of Wallington Hall and Cragside are just some of the many attractions within easy reach.
